Roof Clean and Moss Removal in Rickmansworth

The Brief

A family home in Rickmansworth had a heavily moss-covered tiled roof. The moss was holding moisture, shedding into the gutters and starting to lift at the edges of the tiles. The owners wanted it cleaned safely, without the high pressure jet washing that can damage a roof, and treated so the moss would not come straight back.

What We Did

Our work included:

• Surveyed the roof and access: Checked the pitch, tile condition and safe access points before quoting, so the right method and equipment were planned from the start.
• Removed the moss by hand: Thick moss was scraped away manually rather than blasted off, lifting the growth without forcing water under the tiles or stripping their surface.
• Low pressure soft wash: The roof was cleaned with a controlled low pressure system and specialist solutions that dissolve algae and lichen safely.
• Applied biocide treatment: An approved biocide was applied to kill the remaining spores at the root, slowing regrowth and keeping the roof cleaner for much longer.
• Cleared the fallout: All the moss that came down was cleared from the gutters, driveway and borders, leaving the property clean and tidy.

The Result

A clean, protected roof with the moss removed and the surface treated to slow it coming back. The gutters run freely again and the tiles are no longer holding damp. The owners have a roof that looks cared for and will need far less attention over the coming years.
